25 things TMI?

February 6th, 2009 No comments

I was just saying the other day that I found Facebook less a social convenience and that it was starting to eat into my free time.  Then I came across this article about “25 things”, the Facebook equivalent of chain mail.   I suppose it can be fun, but the sheer scale is daunting. (either my life is an open book, or I don’t have 25 things most people don’t know about me. :) )

Also I only have a handful of FB friends.

Your Font

Your Font

Sometimes a handwritten note provides that personal touch necessary for that special communication, but if you don’t have the quickest or neatest handwriting it can get tedious.  What if you could create a font for the computer that is your handwriting?

This site allows you to download a PDF template, you fill it out with your handwriting, scan it, send it back to them and they create a truetype font – for free.

I haven’t finished this yet, but will post more details as we get something done.

Strange but real…

Strange but real...

One company’s take on “farewell to Bush”.

Not sure where to tag or categorize this one, but found it too creative and bizare to pass up.  From what I hear its very painful, and I as a man who will never get one of these; I personally thank all you women out there for all the pain that you go through to make this world just that much more beautiful.

I’ll do a few extra painful reps in the gym in support.  Its no consolation.

Joe’s goals

Joe's goals

Its a simple concept, list out your goals, give yourself a checkmark every time you achieve it.

This site might seem too simple at first, and may strike you as lacking some whiz bang feature, but in the end its simplicity is a bonus.  You get to spend more time on your new habits, than recording them.

There’s a simple logging feature to distinguish between, for instance, the type of exercise you did (weights, running, yoga, etc.) Or other notes you may want to track.  Maybe, if you are running, you could log your times and PBs (personal bests).

Also you can track negative habits you want to get rid of.  Smoking, over eating, etc.

Lastly there is a badge that you can activate and then paste into your blog, website, myspace, etc.

Wyeth dies

Wyeth dies

I was mostly joking yesterday that “it” happens in 3′s.  After the two TV actors passed yesterday, and today another famous person, the American Painter, Andrew Wyeth died.  I think “Christina’s World” is at MOMA, and Friday nights used to be free.

Check the schedule for current hours.

SoC #2

December 10th, 2008 No comments
  • If I watched every TV show (that I liked at one time) that’s 14-16 hours of shows a week
  • the DVR saves me about 4-5 hours for those shows (if I watched them all)
  • found google trends
  • the top 100 search terms updated about hourly
  • or you can enter a term and it graphs its relative popularity over the last few years
  • try soup, Olympics, money and elections
  • when baseball season comes around that’s more watching hours
  • the average household watches something like 60+ hours per week
  • that is astounding to me
  • but it also explains alot
  • most of the google trends search terms made sense except for
  • fibonacci sequence
  • which was later explained when I watched Fringe on the DVR
  • The proposed Metrocard fees are getting me pissed off
  • Is there no rail, bus, plane line that operates well and on a profit?
  • last night many search terms were from House
  • on ebay they can actually see fewer bids when American Idol is on
  • it was a mystery at first
  • if I walked or ran instead of watching tv, thats about 45 to 100 miles per week
  • or about 1 to 3 pounds in calories
  • that’s every week!
  • America needs to walk 1 hour for every 2-3 hours watched.
  • imagine.
